S&OP and Integrated Business Planning
One plan the whole business is actually holding.
- Typical duration
- 10 to 16 weeks
- Deliverables
- 5 core artifacts
Overview
Many sales and operations planning processes produce a meeting rather than a decision. The demand number and the financial number do not reconcile, supply constraints arrive too late to matter, and the escalations that need an executive never reach one.
We redesign the cycle around decisions and their owners: what gets decided, with what information, by whom, by when. Then we build the analytics underneath so the numbers arrive early enough to argue about productively.
What you get out of it
- A monthly cycle that closes with decisions, owners, and dates
- Demand, supply, and financial plans reconciled to a single number
- Constraints and gaps surfaced with enough lead time to act
- Scenario analysis available in the room rather than two weeks later
Capabilities
What the work actually involves.
Process architecture
Cycle design across product, demand, supply, reconciliation, and executive review, with entry and exit criteria for each step rather than a recurring calendar invite.
Maturity assessment
A structured read of where the current process is strong and where it silently fails, benchmarked against practices we see working in comparable organizations.
Constraint based supply review
Rough cut capacity and materials feasibility that identifies the binding constraint before the executive meeting, not during it.
Financial reconciliation
A defined bridge between the operational plan and the financial forecast, so the gap is explained and owned instead of rediscovered every month.
Scenario and decision support
Prebuilt scenario mechanics so leadership can price an option in the meeting rather than commissioning an analysis and deciding next cycle.
Questions
Things people ask first.
- Do we need new planning software for this?
- Usually not at the start. Nearly every stalled process we have seen was blocked on decision rights and data trust, not on tooling. Fix the process first and the software decision gets both cheaper and clearer.
- How involved does leadership need to be?
- The executive review needs the people who can commit capital and change commitments. Without them the cycle produces a well formatted plan that nobody is accountable for.
Next step
Have a s&op and ibp question?
Send the decision you are facing. A first conversation is a working session, and it usually clarifies scope more than a proposal would.
